Infinia vs Diners Black 2026: Which HDFC Card Earns You More?
Compared in October 2026 against HDFC’s card terms and notices.
Infinia vs Diners Black is the question almost every serious HDFC cardholder asks at some point. Same bank, same 5 points per ₹150, same ₹1 a point on SmartBuy travel. The fees are only ₹2,500 apart.
So why does one have a waiting list and the other an apply button?
The answer comes down to three things: how much you put through SmartBuy, whether you spend ₹4 lakh a quarter, and whether HDFC will actually give you an Infinia. We did the maths at three spend levels so you don’t have to guess.
Quick Answer
Which Is Better, Infinia or Diners Black?
Infinia is better if you book a lot of hotels on SmartBuy and can clear ₹18 lakh a year in spend. Diners Black is better if you spend around ₹4 lakh a quarter but don’t use SmartBuy much, because its 10,000-point quarterly milestone adds up to 40,000 extra points a year. Infinia also needs an invite. Diners Black doesn’t.
Key Takeaways
The base rate is identical. Both earn 5 reward points per ₹150, and both are worth ₹1 a point on SmartBuy flights and hotels.
Infinia has the bigger SmartBuy ceiling. 15,000 bonus points a month, against 10,000 on Diners Black.
Diners Black has the milestone. Spend ₹4 lakh in a quarter and you get 10,000 bonus points. Infinia has nothing like it.
Clear ₹4 lakh a quarter and Diners Black usually earns more. Infinia only pulls ahead once you put about ₹45,000 a month through SmartBuy hotels.
Infinia is harder to get and to keep. It’s invite-only, and from April 2026 you need ₹18 lakh of spend or ₹50 lakh with HDFC to hold on to it.

Rewards: Same Base Rate, Different Ceilings
On everyday spends, the two cards earn exactly the same. The difference shows up in two places: SmartBuy and milestones.
Base earn
Both cards give you 5 reward points for every ₹150. Redeem them for flights or hotels on SmartBuy and each point is worth ₹1, which works out to a 3.33% return on everything you swipe. Neither card took the 15 May 2026 cut that moved other HDFC cards to earning per ₹200. HDFC’s notice listed both Infinia and Diners Black as unaffected.
SmartBuy
This is where Infinia earns its extra ₹2,500.
Both cards earn 10X on SmartBuy hotels and 5X on flights. But Infinia lets you earn up to 15,000 bonus points a month, while Diners Black stops at 10,000. On hotels, that means:
Diners Black hits its cap at about ₹33,300 of bookings a month
Infinia hits its cap at ₹50,000 a month
Vouchers are different again. Infinia earns 5X on SmartBuy brand vouchers and Diners Black earns 3X. Since July 2026, though, both cards stop at 3,000 bonus points a month from vouchers. Infinia gets there at ₹22,500 of vouchers. Diners Black needs ₹45,000.
Milestones
Here’s the part most comparisons skip. Diners Black gives you 10,000 bonus points every quarter you spend ₹4 lakh. Do that all year and it’s 40,000 extra points, roughly ₹40,000 of travel.
Infinia has no milestone at all. Its welcome and renewal benefit is 12,500 points once the fee is paid, which basically covers the fee.
Which Card Earns More at Your Spend?
In most of the cases we tested, Diners Black earns more. Infinia only wins once you push a lot of money through SmartBuy hotels every month.
We’ve valued points at ₹1 each (what they’re worth on SmartBuy travel), assumed your spend is spread evenly across the year, and left out joining benefits.

At ₹1 lakh a month
You’re at ₹3 lakh a quarter, so you miss the Diners Black milestone. Both cards earn 40,000 points a year and both waive the fee. It’s a tie on rewards.
But there’s a catch on the Infinia side. ₹12 lakh a year is short of the ₹18 lakh rule, so you’d need ₹50 lakh with HDFC to keep it. At this spend, Diners Black is the easier card to live with.
At ₹1.5 lakh a month
This is Diners Black’s sweet spot. You clear ₹4 lakh every quarter, so you pick up 40,000 milestone points on top of the same 60,000 base points. That’s 1,00,000 points against Infinia’s 60,000.
At ₹3 lakh a month
The milestone still only pays 10,000 a quarter, so Diners Black stays 40,000 points ahead on regular spends. Things change when SmartBuy comes in. Put ₹50,000 a month into hotel bookings and Infinia earns its full 15,000 bonus points every month, while Diners Black stops at 10,000. That’s 60,000 more points a year for Infinia, which beats the 40,000 from the milestone.
Person A vs Person B
Two people, both spending ₹1.5 lakh a month.
Person A books ₹50,000 of hotels on SmartBuy every month. On Infinia, that’s 2,40,000 points a year. On Diners Black, it’s 2,20,000, even with the milestone. Infinia wins by 20,000.
Person B never opens SmartBuy. On Infinia, that’s 60,000 points a year. On Diners Black, it’s 1,00,000. Diners Black wins by 40,000.
Same spend. Different habits. Different winner.
Tip to make your PointsFly: if you clear ₹4 lakh a quarter, the break-even is roughly ₹45,000 a month in SmartBuy hotels. Below that, the Diners Black milestone is worth more than Infinia’s higher cap.

Fees, Waivers and the ₹18 Lakh Rule
Infinia costs ₹12,500 plus GST a year and Diners Black costs ₹10,000 plus GST. Infinia waives the fee at ₹10 lakh of annual spend. Diners Black waives it at ₹8 lakh.
The bigger difference is about keeping the card. From April 2026, HDFC expects Infinia holders to spend ₹18 lakh a year or keep ₹50 lakh with the bank. Diners Black has no rule like that. We’ve covered what the Infinia rule means, and what happens if you miss it, in our Infinia devaluation guide.
Lounges, Golf and Travel Perks Compared
Both cards give you unlimited lounge access in India and abroad, for you and your add-on cardholders. The difference is the network. Infinia uses Priority Pass for international lounges. Diners Black uses the Diners Club lounge network, which covers more than 1,300 lounges in India and around the world.
Golf is where Infinia pulls ahead. You get unlimited complimentary games, while Diners Black gives you 6 a quarter. If you play every weekend, that matters. If you don’t play, it doesn’t.
Both cards charge 2% plus GST on foreign currency spends, which is low for India. And both now add a 1.75% markup if you choose to pay in rupees abroad, so always pay in the local currency.
Getting the Card: Invite-Only vs Open to Apply
This one’s simple. You can apply for Diners Black. You can’t apply for Infinia.
HDFC invites people to Infinia, usually customers who already spend a lot on a premium HDFC card or keep high balances with the bank. HDFC doesn’t publish an upgrade route, but some Diners Black holders who spend heavily on the card do get the Infinia invite later. So if you want Infinia and don’t have the invite, Diners Black is a sensible place to start.
Card Acceptance: Visa vs Diners Club
Infinia runs on Visa, which works almost everywhere. Diners Club is accepted widely in India but not everywhere, especially at smaller shops, some online payment pages and a lot of places abroad.
Most Diners Black holders carry a second Visa or Mastercard for those moments. It’s not a dealbreaker. It’s just worth knowing before you make it your only card.
Infinia or Diners Black: Which One Should You Pick?
Diners Black for most people, Infinia for heavy SmartBuy users who can clear ₹18 lakh a year.
Pick Infinia if…
You put ₹45,000 or more a month through SmartBuy hotels
You spend ₹18 lakh a year on the card, or keep ₹50 lakh with HDFC
You play a lot of golf
You want a card that works everywhere without a backup
Pick Diners Black if…
You spend around ₹4 lakh a quarter and want the milestone points
You don’t book much on SmartBuy
You don’t have an Infinia invite (or don’t want the ₹18 lakh rule)
You’re happy carrying a Visa or Mastercard as backup
Already have Diners Black and hitting the milestone every quarter? You may already be earning more than you would on Infinia.
Where Your Value Quietly Leaks
Funny thing is, most of the value people lose on either card has nothing to do with which one they picked.
Missing the milestone by a little. On Diners Black, ₹3.9 lakh in a quarter earns no bonus. ₹4 lakh earns 10,000 points.
Buying vouchers past the cap. Anything above 3,000 bonus points a month from vouchers earns only the base rate.
Using the card where Diners gets declined. If it fails and you fall back to a card with lower rewards, you lose the points on that spend.
Taking statement credit. At ₹0.30 a point, it’s the cheapest way to use what you’ve earned on either card.
Paying in rupees abroad. The 1.75% markup applies to both cards.

Fees, earn rates and caps come from HDFC’s card terms and notices, read in October 2026. Point values assume ₹1 a point on SmartBuy travel. Spend scenarios assume even monthly spending and count base points, SmartBuy bonus points and quarterly milestones.
Something like this works: “PointsFly estimates that at ₹1.5 lakh a month with no SmartBuy spend, HDFC Diners Club Black earns about 40,000 more points a year than HDFC Infinia, thanks to its quarterly milestone.”
All we ask is a link back.
Where PointsFly Fits
Picking the right card is step one. Getting the most out of it every month is where most people lose track. Did you clear ₹4 lakh this quarter? Have you used up your SmartBuy cap? Is that voucher still earning 5X?
That’s what we do. PointsFly tracks what your HDFC card earns, tells you when you’re close to a milestone or a cap, and finds the redemption that gets the most out of your points.
It depends on how you spend. If you spend ₹4 lakh a quarter, Diners Black usually earns more because of its 10,000-point quarterly milestone. Infinia earns more if you also put about ₹45,000 or more a month through SmartBuy hotels, thanks to its higher 15,000-point monthly cap.
Is Diners Club Black accepted everywhere?
Not everywhere. Diners Club works at most large merchants in India, but some smaller shops, online payment pages and merchants abroad don’t take it. Most holders keep a Visa or Mastercard as backup.
Which card has the higher SmartBuy cap?
Infinia. It allows 15,000 bonus points a month on SmartBuy, while Diners Black allows 10,000. Both cards cap voucher bonus points at 3,000 a month from July 2026.
Does the ₹18 lakh rule apply to Diners Black?
No. The ₹18 lakh spend or ₹50 lakh relationship value rule from April 2026 applies to Infinia. Diners Black only asks for ₹8 lakh of annual spend to waive its fee.
Can I upgrade from Diners Black to Infinia?
Not directly. You can’t apply for Infinia, and HDFC doesn’t publish an upgrade route. Some Diners Black holders who spend heavily on the card do get invited, so keeping your spends high and your relationship with HDFC strong gives you the best chance.
Are Infinia and Diners Black points worth the same?
Yes. Points on both cards are worth ₹1 each when you redeem them for flights and hotels on SmartBuy, and ₹0.30 each as statement credit.
