Checked against Marriott Bonvoy’s terms and live hotel prices, October 2026.
Ask around about Marriott Bonvoy points value and you’ll hear everything from “about a rupee” to “barely 40 paise”. Odd, right? It’s the same point.
Here’s the thing. Marriott doesn’t give its points a fixed value. A night costs whatever number of points the hotel decides that day, and that number moves with the cash price. So one point can be worth a lot at one hotel and very little at the next.
We priced 12 Marriott hotels in Mumbai and Goa, in points and in cash, on the same dates. Here’s what we found, in plain rupees. Plus a few tips to make sure your points land on the good side.
Quick Answer
How much is 1 Marriott Bonvoy point worth in INR?
Expect around ₹0.7 for 1 Marriott Bonvoy point on most hotel stays in India. Choose well and it’s worth more than ₹1. Choose badly and you could be looking at under ₹0.5. Our rule of thumb? If a booking doesn’t get you at least ₹0.8 a point, pay cash and keep the points.
Key takeaways
1 Marriott point is worth about ₹0.7 on a typical Indian stay. In our search, values ranged from ₹0.34 to ₹1.18.
The cheaper hotel isn’t always the better deal. We saw JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar give us ₹1.04 a point on a night when the Courtyard down the road gave just ₹0.60.
Got Amex points? They move to Marriott 1:1, which makes an Amex point worth about the same as a Marriott one.
Moving points to airlines? 60,000 Marriott points get you 25,000 miles, and that’s really only worth it for a business class seat.
Your points last as long as something happens on your account every 24 months. A stay or a small card transfer in resets the clock.

Marriott Bonvoy points value table: 10,000 to 1,00,000 points in rupees
Here’s what common balances are worth, depending on where you use them.
| Marriott points | Poor stay (₹0.4) | Typical stay (₹0.7) | Good stay (₹1) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | ₹400 | ₹700 | ₹1,000 |
| 10,000 | ₹4,000 | ₹7,000 | ₹10,000 |
| 25,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹17,500 | ₹25,000 |
| 50,000 | ₹20,000 | ₹35,000 | ₹50,000 |
| 1,00,000 | ₹40,000 | ₹70,000 | ₹1,00,000 |
How we got these numbers: we compared points prices with cash prices at 12 Marriott hotels in Mumbai (18 November 2026) and Goa (28 December 2026), checked on 23 October 2026. We added 18% GST to the cash rate, since you don’t pay it on a points night.
So is 25,000 points a lot? Not really. At most mid-range Marriott hotels here, like a Fairfield, it covers about one night. A JW Marriott usually asks for somewhere between 45,000 and 60,000.
Why Marriott points have no fixed value
There’s no award chart
Marriott dropped its award chart a few years ago. Now every hotel prices its points nights based on demand, much like its cash rates. Busy dates cost more points. Quiet dates cost fewer.
That’s very different from a programme like Accor, where every point is always worth the same. If you want to compare the two, here’s what Accor points are worth.
A worked example from Mumbai
Here’s what we found for one night in Mumbai on 18 November 2026:
| Hotel | Points needed | Cash price, with GST | Value per point |
|---|---|---|---|
| The St. Regis Mumbai | 62,000 | ₹72,865 | ₹1.18 |
| JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar | 44,000 | ₹45,961 | ₹1.04 |
| Fairfield by Marriott Mumbai Airport | 22,000 | ₹22,195 | ₹1.01 |
| JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu | 58,000 | ₹45,961 | ₹0.79 |
| Courtyard by Marriott Mumbai Airport | 41,000 | ₹24,662 | ₹0.60 |
Look at the Courtyard. It wanted 41,000 points. That’s just 3,000 less than the JW Marriott Sahar, and yet the room costs about half as much in cash. We didn’t expect that gap either.
Peak season in Goa tells a similar story. On 28 December, JW Marriott Goa came in at ₹0.99 a point, while Le Méridien Goa was just ₹0.43.
Work out your own value
You don’t need a calculator for this. Just divide the cash price by the points price:
Value per point = cash price with taxes ÷ points needed
Marriott shows cash rates without tax by default, so add the 18% GST first. Then compare the answer with our table. Anything above ₹0.8 is a good use of your points.

How to redeem Marriott points for the best value
Free nights, and the 5th night free
Free nights are the best way to use Marriott points, by a long way. You can book them on Marriott’s website or app, the same way you’d book a paid room.
Planning a longer trip? Book five nights in a row on points and Marriott takes the cheapest one off. They call it “Stay for 5, Pay for 4”, and it pushes your value up by 25%.
Cash + Points
Short of points? Marriott lets you pay part in points and part in cash. It’s handy for a top-up, but the cash part doesn’t earn points and the rooms are limited. Run the same value check before you book.
What to skip
Marriott also lets you spend points on shopping, gift cards and “Moments” like concerts and dining. These usually give you far less than a hotel night does. If you want more ideas on where your points go furthest, see our guide on how to redeem credit card points.
How to transfer Marriott points
There are four kinds of Marriott transfers: points in from your cards, points out to airlines, miles in from KrisFlyer, and points to family. Here’s how each one works.
Amex points to Marriott Bonvoy
American Express Membership Rewards transfer to Marriott Bonvoy at 1:1. One Amex point becomes one Marriott point, so it’s worth about ₹0.7 on a typical stay and ₹1 or more at a good one. If you hold an Amex Platinum card, this is one of the simplest hotel transfers you’ve got.
Other Indian cards that transfer to Marriott:
| Card | Ratio | ₹ per card point (typical / good stay) |
|---|---|---|
| Amex Membership Rewards | 1:1 | ₹0.70 / ₹1 |
| HSBC TravelOne, HSBC Premier | 1:1 | ₹0.70 / ₹1 |
| HDFC Infinia, Diners Club Black | 2:1 | ₹0.35 / ₹0.50 |
| HDFC Regalia Gold | 3:1 | ₹0.23 / ₹0.33 |
| Kotak Air Miles cards | 3:1 | ₹0.23 / ₹0.33 |
Axis removed Marriott as a transfer partner in April 2026, and it hasn’t come back. For HDFC cardholders, 2:1 is a weak rate, so check other options first. Our guide to credit card points transfer walks through them.
Marriott points to airline miles
You can turn Marriott points into miles with 35+ airlines, mostly at 3 points for every mile. The catch is that you want to move them 60,000 at a time. Do that and most airlines, Qatar included, add 5,000 miles on top, so you walk away with 25,000 miles rather than 20,000.
Is it worth it? Let’s say 60,000 points go to Qatar Airways, and 25,000 Avios land in your account. Used for an economy flight, that’s worth about ₹35,000, or ₹0.58 per Marriott point. Used for Qatar business class from India, it’s closer to ₹1,00,000, or ₹1.67 per point. So it only makes sense for a premium seat. Here’s what Avios are worth if you want the full maths.
KrisFlyer miles to Marriott
This works the other way too. Since April 2026, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles convert to Marriott points at 4:3, up to 2,50,000 miles a year, and the points usually land within a day. KrisFlyer miles are usually worth more as flights, so it’s mainly useful when your miles are close to expiring.
Moving points to family or friends
You can send up to 1,00,000 points a year to another Marriott member, for free. The other person can receive up to 5,00,000 a year. Both accounts need to be at least 30 days old.
Cards that earn Marriott points directly
The Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Bank credit card earns Bonvoy points on your spends, with no transfer needed. You get 8 points per ₹150 at Marriott hotels, and a free night every year worth up to 15,000 points.
Should you buy Marriott points?
You can. It just rarely makes sense. Pay full price and every 1,000 points sets you back about $12.50, which is close to ₹1.18 a point.
A few times a year, Marriott throws in extra points. There’s one on right now: up to 55% more until 23 November 2026, depending on your account. That brings the cost down to about ₹0.77 a point, which is still a little more than the ₹0.7 a typical stay gives back. So only buy during a sale, and only to top up for a stay where you’re getting ₹1 or more per point.
Marriott Bonvoy points expiry: How to keep them alive
If nothing happens on your account for 24 months, your points expire. And there’s no getting them back after that.
The good news? Keeping them alive is easy from India:
- Move a few card points in. A small transfer from your Amex or HDFC account counts.
- Stay one night. Paid or on points, any night at a Marriott hotel counts.
- Use a Marriott card. Spending on the Marriott Bonvoy HDFC card earns points every month.
One catch: points sent to you by another member don’t count as activity. You need something you earned or redeemed yourself.
Where your value quietly leaks
- Booking the “cheaper” hotel on points. The Courtyard in our example cost almost as many points as the JW. Always check the value per point.
- Spending points on shopping or Moments. You usually get far less than a hotel night gives you.
- Sending points to airlines in odd amounts. Without the 60,000 block, you miss the 5,000 bonus miles.
- Transferring HDFC points at 2:1. At ₹0.35 a point, most other options do better.
- Letting points expire. One small earn every 24 months keeps the whole balance safe.

We pulled the points and cash prices for 12 hotels straight from marriott.com on 23 October 2026, for Mumbai on 18 November and Goa on 28 December. GST at 18% is added to the cash rates. The transfer ratios are from Marriott’s and the banks’ own terms, which we went through in October 2026.
Something like this works: “PointsFly estimates that one Marriott Bonvoy point is worth about ₹0.7 on a typical stay in India, and over ₹1 at the right hotel.”
