Avios points value in India: What 1 Avios is really worth in rupees (2026)

Avios points value in India: 1 Avios is worth about ₹1.4 to ₹4

Checked against Qatar Airways and British Airways terms, October 2026.

Google the Avios points value and almost every answer comes back in pence. “About 1p each,” says almost every guide. That’s useful if you live in London. Not so much if you’re flying out of Delhi.

So we did the maths in rupees. We priced real Qatar Airways award seats from India against the cash fares for the same flights, on the same dates.

The short version? Avios points don’t have one fixed value. Spend them on an economy seat and you’ll get around ₹1.4 each. Spend them on Qatar business class and the same Avios can be worth ₹4 or more. Here’s how it works, and how to land at the top end.

Key takeaways

1 Avios is worth about ₹1.4 in economy and ₹4+ in Qatar business class. The UK’s “1p per Avios” works out to about ₹1.27.

Business class is where Avios shine. Delhi to Doha in business costs 26,000 Avios one way, against a cash fare of over ₹1,15,000.

Hotels, shopping and part-paying a fare are the weakest uses, at roughly ₹0.6 an Avios.

Avios move 1:1 between Qatar, British Airways and other Avios programmes, so it doesn’t matter much where you collect them.

HDFC Infinia sends points to Finnair at 1:1 but to British Airways and Qatar at 2:1. Going via Finnair doubles your Avios.

What is Avios?

Think of Avios as one currency that seven airline programmes all use: Qatar Airways Privilege Club, British Airways Club, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Finnair Plus, Vueling and Loganair. One Avios is the same thing in all of them. That’s why you’ll hear people say “Qatar Avios” and “BA Avios” as if they’re the same points. They are.

You can move Avios between these programmes 1:1, for free, through Avios.com. Qatar and Finnair don’t link directly, so Avios between those two go through British Airways first. Joining any of them is free.

For most Indians, Qatar Privilege Club is the one that matters. Qatar flies to more than ten Indian cities, and it prices its own award seats from India well. British Airways is useful too, mainly for its partner flights and a few of its own routes.

One more thing to know: Avios expire if your account has no earning or spending activity for 36 months. Finnair is stricter, at 18 months. If you’re new to airline points in general, start with our guide on what air miles are.

Avios points value table: 1,000 to 1,00,000 Avios in rupees

Here’s what common balances are worth, depending on how you spend them.

How we got these numbers: we compared Qatar’s award prices with its cash fares on Delhi to Doha and Delhi to London in November 2026, after allowing for the taxes you pay on an award ticket. “Low use” covers hotels, shopping and part-paying a fare with Avios.

So what do 10,000 Avios get you? On their own, not quite a one-way economy seat from India to Doha (that’s 13,000). Add a few thousand and you’ve got a flight worth over ₹20,000.

Avios calculator: Work out your own value

You can skip the fancy tools here. One simple sum tells you what your Avios are worth on any flight:

Value per Avios = (cash fare minus the taxes you pay on the award) ÷ Avios needed

Qatar’s own My Calculator shows how many Avios a route costs. Google Flights or Qatar’s website gives you the cash fare. Put the two together and you’ve got your number. It works the same way for British Airways, and BA has its own reward flight calculator too.

Worked example: Delhi to Doha, in November

Here’s what we found for a Qatar flight from Delhi to Doha on 18 November 2026:

The business fare is half of Qatar’s return fare (₹2,31,374), since one-way business tickets from India are priced much higher. Taxes on award tickets vary by route and cabin, and Qatar shows the exact amount when you search. Even if they came to ₹10,000 in business, each Avios would still be worth over ₹4.

Same route, same day. The only thing that changed was the cabin, and it nearly tripled the value of each Avios.

Longer flights follow the same pattern. Delhi to London through Doha costs 27,500 Avios in economy and 55,000 in business. Against the cash fares we saw, that’s about ₹1.7 and ₹4.5 an Avios.

Best and worst uses of Avios from India

Best uses

  • Qatar business class on short and medium routes. Delhi or Mumbai to Doha costs 26,000 Avios one way, and the cash fare is often over a lakh. This is the best value you’ll find from India.
  • Qsuites to Europe. 55,000 Avios gets you from Delhi or Mumbai to London in Qatar’s business suite, against a cash fare of over ₹2,50,000 one way.
  • Partner flights on oneworld airlines. Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and SriLankan can all be booked with Avios, and short partner hops in Asia are often cheap.
  • Off-peak dates. Qatar shows off-peak and peak dates in its calendar. Off-peak saves you a good chunk of Avios on the same seat.

Worst uses

  • Avios Hotels. You get roughly half a penny per Avios, so about ₹0.6.
  • Shopping and vouchers. Same story. It’s an easy way to use Avios, but you lose most of their value.
  • Part-paying a fare. Qatar lets you mix cash and Avios. It’s handy when you’re short, but each Avios goes much less far.

Avios partner airlines you can book from India

There are two kinds of Avios partner airlines. Seven airlines use Avios as their own currency. Then there are the oneworld alliance airlines and other partners, where you can also spend them.

Qatar also partners with IndiGo, so you can earn Avios on eligible IndiGo flights too.

A quick note on British Airways. BA adds hefty fees to award seats on its own long-haul flights. So for London, Qatar via Doha usually costs you less in cash on top of the Avios.

Which Indian credit cards transfer to Avios?

This is where it pays to look closely. The same card can give you twice as many Avios depending on which programme you send the points to.

Most cards have caps. Infinia lets you transfer up to 1,50,000 points a month and Diners Club Black 75,000. On Axis, the airline group that includes the Avios partners has a yearly cap, which is 30,000 EDGE Miles on Atlas. You’ll find the full Axis list in our Axis Bank transfer partners update, and how card transfers work in general in our guide to credit card points transfer.

The Finnair trick for HDFC cardholders

If you hold an HDFC Infinia or Diners Club Black, don’t send your points straight to British Airways or Qatar. Send them to Finnair Plus instead. You’ll get 1 Avios for every point rather than half of one.

From there, you can book with Finnair or move the Avios across to British Airways, and on to Qatar if you need to. A few things to sort out first:

  • Open and link your accounts early. New accounts have to wait 30 days before they can move Avios out, and a new Qatar account can’t link to BA for its first 30 days.
  • Don’t leave Avios sitting in Finnair. They expire after 18 months without activity there, and moving Avios in doesn’t reset that clock.
  • Transfer only when you’ve found a seat. Card transfers can’t be reversed.

Cards that earn Avios directly

IndusInd’s Avios credit card earns Avios on your spends, with no transfer needed. You pick British Airways or Qatar as your airline. It’s worth a look if Avios are the only points you collect.

Avios and hotels: Moving hotel points to Avios

Type “Avios hotels” into Google and most of what comes up is Avios Hotels. It’s a booking site where you can earn Avios, or pay for a room with them. Earning there is fine. Paying with Avios isn’t, at roughly ₹0.6 each.

The better way to bring hotels into the picture is to move hotel points into Avios when you’re a little short for a flight.

Accor to Qatar

2,000 Accor points become 1,500 Qatar Avios. It’s the best airline route Accor has, but it’s usually only worth it to top up a booking. Our guide to what Accor points are worth has the full maths.

IHG to Qatar

With IHG, it’s 5:1. So 10,000 IHG points get you 2,000 Avios. There’s also an auto-convert setting. Switch it on, and most IHG hotels give you 2 Avios per US dollar instead of IHG points.

Marriott to Avios

Marriott Bonvoy is 3:1, with a sweetener. Move 60,000 points and you get 5,000 Avios on top, so you end up with 25,000 Avios.

And until 31 October 2026, Qatar is throwing in extra Avios on hotel conversions. It’s 15% on most transfers, 25% once you hit 50,000 Avios in one go, and 35% at 1,00,000. Accor and IHG count. Marriott doesn’t.

Should you buy Avios?

You can buy Avios from Qatar, British Airways and Finnair. At full price, it rarely makes sense.

Qatar runs sales a few times a year, and the last one (up to 60% extra Avios) ended on 19 October 2026. Even then, bought Avios only make sense if you’re topping up for a specific business class seat you’ve already found. For economy, you’d usually pay about what the seat would have cost in cash.

So the rule is simple. Wait for a sale, have the booking in mind, and buy only what you need.

Where your value quietly leaks

  • Spending Avios on hotels, shopping or vouchers. You get about ₹0.6 an Avios, less than half of what a flight gives you.
  • Booking BA long-haul from India. The fees on top can wipe out a big part of the value. Check Qatar first.
  • Sending HDFC points to BA or Qatar directly. At 2:1 you get half the Avios you’d get through Finnair.
  • Transferring before you’ve found a seat. Transfers can’t be undone, and award seats aren’t always there.
  • Letting Avios expire. One small earn or spend every 36 months keeps them alive, or every 18 months at Finnair.

Writing about Avios? Feel free to use our numbers.

Award prices come from Qatar Airways’ My Calculator, and cash fares from Google Flights for Qatar flights from Delhi on 18 November 2026, both checked on 23 October 2026. Transfer ratios come from each bank’s transfer terms, checked in October 2026.

Something like this works: “PointsFly estimates that one Avios is worth about ₹1.4 on an economy flight from India and over ₹4 in Qatar Airways business class.”

All we ask is a link back. We update these numbers when fares, award prices or transfer ratios change.
